Gongura Chicken is a popular Andhra dish.Gongura leaves are rich in iron,vitamins and folic acid.It has antioxidant essential.Gongura leaves are sour in taste and becomes more sour if the environment is hotter.They are great way to keep the bones strong.Here is the recipe of Gongura chicken.

Ingredients :
Chicken- 1 lb(450 gms)
Gongura leaves/Pulliche Keerai-1 bunch
Red chillies-6
Jeera-2 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Chilli powder-1 1/2tsp
Corainder powder-1 1/2tsp
Garam masala-1 tsp
Garlic pods-4 nos
Chopped Onion-1 cup
Ginger garlic paste-1 spoon
Procedure :
1.Lets remove the stem of the gongura leaves and keep ready for cooking.Take a pan,heat it with 1 tsp of sesame oil,add 1/2 tsp jeera,4 chopped garlic,3-4 red chillies and add gongura leaves.
3.Now make a paste of these ingredients by putting them in a blender.
4.Take a pan,heat it with 3 spoons of oil,add 1/2 tsp of jeera,2 red chillies.Fry it for a minute then add 1 medium size chopped onion.Fry it till it changes its colour to light red.
5.Now add ginger garlic paste and keep on stirring till the raw smell goes away.Add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and 1 1/2 tsp red chilli powder.Stir it nicely.Then add 1 lb chicken and keep stirring.
6.Turn the flame to medium, cover it with a lid and cook for 10-12 minutes till the chicken becomes soft and start oozing out oil.Add required amount of salt to the chicken.Dont add more as already salt has been added to gongura paste.
7.Once the chicken is cooked,add 3/4 cup of gongura paste in this.Left over can be mixed with the rice and eaten.
8.Mix it with the spatula and then add 1 tsp corainder powder,1 tsp garam masala.Add little water if it has become dry.Cover and cook for 5-7 mins.
9.Transfer to the bowl and give temper by heating little oil with 1/2 tsp jeera,1 red chilli.Pour to this temper to the Gongura chicken and serve hot with rice.It is great as a side dish.
