Pallipalayam Mushroom/Polte Kaalan

Pallipalayam Mushroom is a simple dish.It is similar to pallipalayam chicken.Pallipalayam is a name of a place located near Erode.My in laws are from Erode.So during one of the occasions we went to restaurant and had this chicken.we all liked it very much.So just replaced that recipe with mushroom.Here is the recipe.

Ingredients :
Chopped Mushroom-250 gms(1 cup)
Shallots-15 nos
Ginger garlic paste-1 spoon
Thin sliced Coconut-1/2 cup
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Fennel seeds-1/2 tsp(optional)
Pepper powder-1 tsp
Jeera powder-1/2 tsp
Chilli powder-1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Whole dry chilli (red)- 4 nos
Curry leaves-Handfull
Asafoetida-1 pinch
Cooking oil/coconut oil- 3-4spoons
Salt- to taste


Procedure:
1.Take a pan or kadai,heat it with 3-4 spoons of oil( coconut oil can be used,it gives a very good aroma).Add 1/2 spoon mustard seeds,when it starts splutter add 1/2 spoon fennel seeds when starts cracking add 15 nos shallots,4 red chillies broken.Saute it for a minute.
2.when the shallot colour changes to light reddish ,add 1 spoon ginger garlic paste,add handfull of curry leaves and 1/2 cup thin sliced coconut.Saute it again.
3.Then add all the spices, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder,1/2 tsp chilli powder,1 tsp pepper powder,1/2 tsp jeera powder and a pinch of asafoetida.Saute it till the raw smell goes away.Then add 250 gms chopped  mushroom and required amount of salt to it.
4.Add 2-3 spoons of water to this and close the pan with a lid.Let it cook for 5-7 minutes.When we wash the mushroom and don't dry it off properly it contains water then at this point no need to add water.If it is fully dried after washing mushrooms then add 2-3 spoons of water.
5.Within 5-7 minutes the mushroom gets cooked.Serve hot with Sambhar rice,Rasam rice.This is good as a starter or as a side dish.
