Mawa Modak/ Khoya Modak is a milk solid sweet recipe, simple and easy recipe. It is done during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi offered to Lord Ganesha.Like other Modaks which are filled with jaggery and grated coconut, this one is little different, it's made of milk solids, But can be filled with dry fruits. It is mostly popular in North India.
Cook Time : 15 mins
Total Time : 20 mins
Ingredients:
khoya/mawa/solid milk-1/2 cup
Powdered Sugar-1/4 cup
Cardamom powder-1/4 tsp
Milk-1 spoon
Ghee-1 spoon
Procedure :
1.You can also dissolve 4-5 saffron strands in warm milk and add to the dough.I have skipped it as I don't have saffron strands. The saffron gives colour to the Modak.
Take 1/2 cup mawa and grate the mawa, heat it in a non stick pan in a very low flame.
2.Keep on stirring till the mawa oozes out fat.It takes around 7-8 minutes. If it is not stirred then the mawa will stick to the pan and will change its colour.
3.Once started oozing out fat then transfer it to a bowl and let it cool until it is warm.Add the powdered sugar, cardamom powder to this mawa when it is warm. The Modak shape can be given only when the dough is warm.
5.Apply ghee on the mawa mould and take a small ball of this dough and put it in the mould. After removing the Modak will be ready. If you don't have mould you can also give shape with hands.Apply ghee on hands and take a small ball, make like a mountain shape.in Between the volume should be more and with the help of knife or spoon end give a shape of vertical line from top to the middle.
